Breast uplift- Mastopexy (with or without implants)

Some women experience descent of their breasts over time leaving them with breasts that sit low on the chest and often the nipple sits even lower. These patients may choose to undergo uplift surgery. There are many reasons for this to occur - the ageing process, weight loss, pregnancy and breast feeding and even genetics all play a part in this phenomenon. Luckily it can be improved by uplift surgery also known as mastopexy.

A further group of women also feel their breasts are too low and too small and may notice that they lack fullness especially to the upper part of the breasts. These women may benefit from breast uplift with implants.

What Mastopexy involves

Mastopexy is performed under general anaesthesia. During surgery the breast tissue is lifted and reshaped and the nipple repositioned to create a more youthful and aesthetic breast.

Recovery

Many breast uplift patients chose to stay in hospital overnight. You may wish to allow 1-2 weeks to recover following surgery depending on your occupation. Mr Molajo recommends wearing a surgical bra 24 hours a day for 6 weeks. He also requests that you avoid heavy lifting and activities that cause bouncing for 6 weeks.

1 week: wound check and review

6 weeks: You should be able to return to most of your normal activities. Your scars will start to fade.

After a few months: Your breasts will continue to soften and feel more natural. Your scars will continue to improve over the next 12-18 months.

Is breast uplift right for me?

Risks

Breast uplift surgery usually produces high satisfaction but certain risks need consideration. They include risks common to all surgery - infection, bleeding and unpredictable scarring; nipple related issues including sensation changes, inability to breast feed and loss of blood supply to the nipple leading to nipple loss (very rare). In most cases the size achieved is close to what the patient wishes, but it is not possible to guarantee final cup size. Breasts continue to change and will change further with time. If implants are combined with uplift, then risks associated with implants must also be considered. Mr Molajo will cover the risks in great detail at your consultation.

Mr Malajo was very approachable and explained the procedure in a straightforward way. No pressure was applied on me to proceed with the surgery. The surgery itself was a complete success (only minimal discomfort afterwards) and my recovery was complete in 5 weeks. My only regret is waiting until I was 71 before having the surgery.

Mr Molajo worked wonders with my breasts. Having had 3 children, I was unhappy with my deflated breasts. I had seen two different surgeons prior to Mr Molajo, who were very unpleasant and spoke about my body as though I wasn’t there.
